Monarch Park

Development Stage : Proposal | Planning | Design | Activation | Maintenance

Purpose

ForestR in now moving towards activation of our newest Pocket Park, Monarch! Part fruit orchard, public planting space, and home to various species of native milkweed, we plan on this park being a place of rest and relaxation for neighbors of all kind, human and butterfly!

Planned Amenities

Public Planter Boxes

Monarch Park will be the newest addition in our mission to make gardening accessible to neighbors who may not have room to grow in their homes. We hope the boxes will be utilized as a free planting spaces for community members to grow vegetables, flowers, or whatever other plants their hearts desire.

Fruit Orchard

Fruit trees will be planted along the winding path that travels throughout Monarch Park. The dream is for neighbors to meander through the trees and be able to pick ripe fruit for a snack as they go.

Sitting Areas

Redwood stumps and logs will be crafted as resting spaces for community members to relax in the shade and watch the plants.

Native Plantlife

While we don’t plan to remove the olive trees already established at this site, our team plans to populate the rest of the park with species native to California. Reflecting the park’s name, we will have specific focus on the native species of milkweed to provide ample shelter and food for the monarch butterflies in our neighborhood.
