What is gleaning?
Gleaning is the practice of collecting leftover crops or produce from fields or orchards after the main harvest. It aims to reduce food waste by gathering the surplus food that would otherwise go unused.
This practice has evolved into organized efforts by various organizations, working in collaboration with farmers, to distribute the collected food to those in need, such as food banks or directly to individuals facing food insecurity.
Gleaning not only helps address hunger and improve food access but also contributes to sustainable agriculture by utilizing resources that would otherwise be wasted.
