The BigTrek

So… what's the big idea?
The Big Trek is a distance challenge with a twist: it's a race and a team effort at the same time. Get outside, move however you like, and log the distance in the app. Your kilometres do double duty — they climb your spot on the leaderboard, and they add to one big goal the whole community is walking toward together.
No trailhead required and no pace too slow. A stroll to the mailbox counts the same per kilometre as a summit push. This one's built so everyone who moves belongs.
Two ways to play, at the same time.
🤝 Together
Every kilometre anyone logs fills one shared community goal. However far you go, you move all of us forward — no one is too slow to matter.
🏔️ Solo
Your personal distance also climbs a live leaderboard. If you've got a competitive streak, this is your mountain to top.
Our shared goal maps to the whole community we feed — the distance connecting every place Forestr gleans and harvests, from Castro Valley across the East Bay to Solano. The bar fills as we log kilometres together.
Forestr rescues and harvests real, fresh food that would otherwise go to waste — hundreds of thousands of pounds of it — and gets it to our neighbors. That's the fuel. The Big Trek is the movement.
When you go the distance, you're celebrating the very thing our gleaning work is built on: that good food and healthy bodies belong to a healthy, connected community. The route we walk together traces the same map our harvests travel. Move well, eat well — together.
Rewards for the individual — and for all of us.
A tee and a taste of the harvest
Our three top trekkers each take home a Forestr t-shirt plus a basket of gleaned fruit from right here in our area — real food for real movement.
Plant a tree, together
If we reach the shared goal, Forestr plants a fruit tree in Monarch Park's new community food forest — and everyone who trekked votes on which fruit it'll be. We walk far enough to grow something the whole neighborhood can pick from.
And here's the part where everyone wins: you'll feel better, you'll get outside more, and you'll have moved something bigger than yourself. That's the whole point.
Clean. Green. Glean. Now there's a challenge for each.
The +Health Challenges app is how our community turns everyday habits into something we rally behind together. With The Big Trek, all three of our values finally have a challenge flying their flag — move for the food, the health, and the community that ties it all together.
